Rolex Submariner Date 16800 'Matte Dial' (1983)

The Rolex Submariner is one of the most iconic and recognisable diving watches ever made. Shifting through many different variations over its long lifespan, the Submariner remains a popular model in modern Rolex catalogues. The 16800 reference, one of the most iconic of all Submariners, was the next generation of early 1980s Submariners, preceded by the 5513. This particular example has a serial number displaying '7539xxx', indicating it dates from 1983. Its incredible matte dial and sapphire crystal indicates a transitional configuration. Furthermore, the dial displays the rare 'feet first' engraving, reading '1000ft=300m' where most Submariners would list the depth in metres before feet. This watch's desirability is only enhanced by its outstanding condition, showing minimal signs of wear. Presented in its original presentation box, signed guarantee (12/03/1984) and accessories, this early '80s Submariner is a wonderful vintage reference overflowing with style and collectibility. A small blemish exists on the dial near the 7 o'clock marker. This model is also fitted with service hands.
