Panerai Luminor 1950 Rattrapante PAM00213

Since 1860 Panerai have built their reputation on continuous innovation and unique craftmanship. Giovanni Panerai was a visionary; in 1860 he was the first to apply radium-based powder to dials to give them their luminosity- a substance which revolutionised the watchmaking industry. 158 years later Panerai continue to evolve through the release of iconic and highly functional timepieces, considered by many as essential diving instruments.

The famous Luminor model replaced the Radiomir in 1949 following the Second World War. The radium-based powder used in the Radiomir was superceded by a tritium based compound under the 'Luminor' trademark. The Luminor's rapid post-war development led to a number of new innovations, including a crown-protecting bridge, with reinforced wire lugs created from the same block of steel as the case, the cushion-shaped case as in the Radiomir 1940 and the flat, wider bezel. Due to their deployment for the Italian Royal Navy in 1950, models with this case are known today as Luminor 1950.

This PAM00213 model notably includes a rattrapante function which loosely translates from French to 'catch up'. Rattrapante is a chronograph movement with an additional seconds hand for the chronograph function superimposed over the normal seconds hand and an additional pusher. Its high-grade automatic OP XVIII movement is visible through the display-back case.

Measuring at 44mm and in very good condition, this Luminor comes alongside a complete set. This includes original inner and outer packaging, alternate rubber and leather straps, strap removal tool, service records, booklets, bill of sale, paperwork and guarantee dated 3/4/08.
