IWC MK11 RAF Navigators watch on original bracelet.

The IWC MK 11 is one of the most sought after of military watches. The RAF had a requirment for special watches to be issued to Navigators, it had to be able to withstand all the magnetic forces from the electrical equipment used at the time. IWC achieved this by making the watch with a soft iron dial and inner case back forming what was known as a Faraday cage. The movement was marked with the MOD broad arrow which can also be seen on the case back. This fine example is an early issue from 1952, the dial was replaced as standard in the early 1960’s to a version which has tritium luminous paint, far safer than the original radium dials which gave off small levels of radio activity. It is fitted with the original BONKLIP bracelet, designed to be adjustable to fit over flight suits and jackets etc. The watch has come from the original owner and flight number can be supplied upon request.
