Breitling Navitimer 806 'Lip' Special Edition

Model Code: 806

An early Breitling Navitimer is always something to behold. Celebrated beside the Heuer Carrera, Omega Speedmaster and the Rolex Daytona as one of the icons of '60s watchmaking, the Navitimer is synonymous with functional brilliance. Famously worn by such legendary racing drivers as Jim Clarke and Graham Hill, this pilot's watch was developed with the AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association). Unusual for its time, the Navitimer boasts its famed slide rule bezel which surrounds a 40mm case with a thickness of 13mm, housing a myriad of complex functions on its dial. What was once an all-black display in the '50s evolved into the classic 'reverse panda' design as seen on this late '60s model, which improves legibility in low-light conditions through contrasting white subdials.
Notably, this 806 model features the print 'Lip' beneath the Breitling logo. Lip was a French distributor and watch brand who sold their own unique timepieces among other iconic brands including Breitling. Certainly a rare and unique feature to this timeless reference.
The condition of this example is simply outstanding. For a watch approaching 60 years old, its lack of fading and damage is incredibly rare, remaining in perfect working order. Presented on a vintage style brown calfskin strap with a Breitling branded buckle, this treasured pilots watch is essential to any vintage watch collection.
